As Director of Alumni Engagement, Mary Johnson leads our efforts to deepen the engagement of our most prominent alumni including past presidents, former directors and key volunteers. Mary also develops sustainable involvement opportunities among these groups and works with Development to broaden the alumni prospect pipeline. A graduate of San Diego State University’s School of Social Work, Mary joined the Alumni Affairs department in 1986. She was appointed assistant director in 1989 and in 1990 served for a year as interim director. Mary is credited for having created the first dues membership program, the Awards for Excellence program, for enrolling UC San Diego as one of the first flagship schools offering a searchable online directory and for laying the groundwork of the Association’s successful merit-based scholarship program.
