Richard Atkinson

Honorary Alumnus
Richard C. Atkinson, Ph.D.

Retiring UC president and former UCSD Chancellor, Atkinson was honored for his outstanding contributions to the University community. During his 14-year tenure at UCSD, he placed a priority on maintaining and enhancing the University’s world-renowned standards of excellence in teaching, research and public service. Of the 17 previous UC presidents, only four have served longer than Atkinson. Under his leadership, UCSD achieved institutional maturity and distinction in the arts, humanities and social sciences, in addition to continued growth in engineering and medicine.

Heidi Feldman

Outstanding Alumna
Heidi Feldman, SOM ’79

Dr. Feldman is a graduate of the UCSD School of Medicine (SOM) and the UCSD Pediatric Residency Program. She is a professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, and a renowned leader in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. She is a leading academician in developmental psychology and focuses on research and clinical assistance for children with genetic disorders, language impairments, and ADHD. Her clinical work is local and national in scope.

John Cambon

Distinguished Services
John Cambon, Ph.D. ’74

Dr. Cambon is a former president of the UCSD Alumni Association (1984-1986) during which time he turned his attention to structuring the financial end of the organization, a skill he mastered as president of DigiVision, a medical products company he founded in San Diego. He is vice-chair of the UCSD Foundation and has served on several boards including the Board of Overseers, the Mandeville Arts Council, UCSD CONNECT board and countless other on-campus committees.

Rodney Hood

Professional Achievement
Dr. Rodney Hood, SOM ’73

Dr.Hood is a graduate of the UCSD School of Medicine and also completed his residency at UCSD in Internal Medicine. He is a practicing physician and current managing partner for Care View Medical Group in San Diego. He is a leader in the local medical community, the African-American medical profession, and is a leading health advocate for policies affecting lower income and minority Americans.

Wayne Cornelius

Distinguished Teaching
Professor Wayne Cornelius

A political science professor and 23-year veteran of UCSD, Professor Wayne Cornelius has continually demonstrated an outstanding commitment to teaching and his students. His courses and research often focus on sensitive political and personally sensitive issues, such as immigration policy, Mexican politics and U.S.-Mexico relations, yet he has been able to foster an inclusive classroom where competing ideologies learn from each other. He is the director of The Center for Comparative Immigration Studies with an emphasis on U.S.-Mexico relations.

Wayne Cornelius

Outstanding National Merit Scholar
Eliana Bukofzer ’04, Muir College

Eliana Bukofzer is a truly remarkable student with a 4.0 GPA from a wide range of courses from Organic Chemistry to Cognitive Ethnography. In addition to her challenging major, Cognitive Science, this active student leader of Muir College is also taking courses required for medical school admission.

Wayne Cornelius

Outstanding National Merit Scholar
David Steiner ’04, Warren College

David Steiner is a gifted student majoring in cognitive science, specializing in neuroscience, and minoring in management science. Although Steiner maintains a 4.0 GPA (with over 15 A+ grades), he has made time to participate on the UCSD Men’s Club Soccer, volunteer as a math tutor at UCSD Preuss School for sixth and seventh grade, and remain actively involved in the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
