Outstanding Alumnus
Michael Robertson '90

Michael Robertson '90, former captain of the nationally ranked UCSD cycling team and local entrepreneur, was selected to receive top honors of Outstanding Alumnus. A leader and authority on digital distribution, the charismatic Robertson has since moved on to his next locally based venture Lindows, a computer operating system which focuses on Linux operating software for PC's that can run the popular Microsoft programs at a fraction of the price.

Distinguished Services
DeAnn Salcido'86 and Patti Garcia '82

Local attorneys, DeAnn Salcido'86, and Patti Garcia '82, were honored for Distinguished Service to UCSD. Recognized as local civic Latino leaders, Salcido, an attorney with the Juvenile Division, San Diego District Attorney's Office and newly appointed to the California Superior Court, and Garcia, Commissioner of the San Diego Superior Court, were instrumental in the formation of the Hispanic Scholarship Council of UCSD later co-chairing the successful annual scholarship fundraising event, Fiesta de las Estrellas.

Professional Achievement
Professor John Atkinson Knauss, Ph.D. '59 (SI0)

Receiving the Professional Achievement Award was Professor John Atkinson Knauss, Ph.D. '59 (SI0) founding dean and later provost of the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. A member of the prestigious Stratton Commission, he later played a pivotal role in shaping the Sea Grant Program of NOAA.

Professor Willie C. Brown, a gifted and compelling teacher with an innate ability to make the most difficult biological concepts interesting and relevant, was recognized for Distinguished Teaching.
