On Friday, May 21, teams
of students, staff and alumni participated in the first-ever Triton
Junkyard Derby, a boxcar race, sponsored by the UCSD Alumni Association
and Triton Engineering Student Council (TESC).

Release from Jacobs School of Engineering (6/1/04)
The Derby was inspired by the popular
Learning Channel show, "Junkyard Wars." The competition officially
began on Wednesday, May 19 when participants met to discuss the
rules and scoured the UCSD junkyard for scraps to build the perfect
boxcar. or anything capable of making it to the finish line.
The Triton Junkyard Race
was sponsored by Rudolph and Sletten Construction, UCSD Auxiliary
& Physical Plant Services, Campus Research Machine Shop, Campus
Design & Construction, Jacobs School of Engineering, The UCSD
Guardian, UCSD Bookstore, UCSD Student Life, UCSD Craft Center,
John Muir College, Warren College, Revelle College and Sixth College.
