Instructions for Incoming Freshmen

In 2006, the Alumni Association began awarding leadership scholarships to a select group of UC San Diego Regents Scholars.

The Alumni Association recognizes the top 10 entering freshman Regents Scholars with a maximum four-year $10,000 Alumni Regents Scholarship.  The scholarship is based on student leadership with the anticipation that young scholars will continue an active leadership role while at UC San Diego. 

The prestige of the Alumni Regents Scholarship begins with the initial honor of being chosen a Regents Scholar of UC San Diego.

Applicants for the Alumni Regents Scholarship must be a designated Regents Scholar of UC San Diego.  The incoming scholar must complete the 2008 Alumni Regents Scholarship Application to be considered for the award.  The scholar must excel academically and demonstrate leadership in extracurricular school and/or community and employment.  The scholarship is renewable during the spring quarter of the sophomore year.

The deadline for submitting the Alumni Regents Scholarship Application is Monday, April 14.  Submit electronically to mkjohnson@ucsd.edu.

Renewal of the Alumni Regents Scholarship

During the end of the sophomore year continuing Regents Scholars may apply for an additional two-year, $2500 scholarship.   Renewal requirements include:

• completion of 36 units per year
• a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• submission of the Alumni Regents Scholarship Application demonstrating extracurricular, community or employment leadership activities while attending UC San Diego

Renewal requests and essays must include the student name, student ID number and must be submitted electronically to mkjohnson@ucsd.edu no later than Monday, April 14.
