Q&A
with
Erik T. Engelson
Erik T. Engelson, ’82, M.S. ’84, says he doesn’t
know what’s next, but based on his past achievements, chances
are you or someone you know will benefit from whatever he’s
involved in. The 44-year-old alumnus holds patents on more than
45 medical devices, many of them issued while he was with Target
Therapeutics, a Bay-area medical device company. MORE

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Scripps Collections:
An Invaluable Resource
For Future Generations of Scientists
Scripps
Institution of Oceanography, the oldest and largest oceanographic
institution in the western hemisphere, is guided by its mission
to seek, teach and communicate scientific understanding of the
global environment. The Campaign for UCSD will help support Scripps’ research
projects throughout the world; graduate student recruitment and
retention; and outreach and public service efforts.
The Scripps Oceanographic Collections are the world’s foremost
compilation of preserved marine specimens, and are vital to environmental
research studies conducted by the global scientific community.
Ongoing support is essential to maintain the millions of specimens
in these important collections. Many alumni have already helped
preserve this invaluable resource for future generations of scientists
by contributing $1,000 to join Friends
of the Collections. For more information, contact John Steinitz
