CLASS
NOTES ONLINE

The UCSD Alumni Association
is proud to highlight Class Notes as part of the printed publication
as well as an online reference. We are thrilled that so many alumni
submitted Notes in response to our recent postcard request. While
we were able to publish several pages of notes, we included all
of them online.

Emile
Smith, ’96
Congratulations to Emile Smith, ’96, who won an Emmy for Best Visual
Effects for his work on the Fox television series Firefly at the 55th
Annual Emmy Awards in September. The sci-fi series, which is set 500
years in the future, was the brainchild of Joss Whedon the creator of
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It lasted only one season. Smith says he is
now working on a new CBS series called Century City, set in the year
2054.

These are
not
garden-
variety tomatoes!
Hey
can someone please pass the ketchup? After 25 years, “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” is
back with a special edition anniversary DVD. The recent
inductee to the B-Movie Hall of Fame was created by
alumni John DeBello (’75) and now California
State Senator Steve Peace (’76). DeBello penned
the theme song outside Geisel library, a tune that
is memorable to anyone who has seen the original, any
of the three sequels or the animated series spawned
by the mock horror movie. The DVD features six hours
of extra features, including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes
featurettes and tomato trivia. Check out the sequel “Return
of the Killer Tomatoes” for a few famous faces
and facades—George Clooney and the Geisel Library
both star in the flick.
