This year’s freshman orientation covered the basics: college
activities, hours of the dining halls, and the rule about no downloading
music from the Internet. No what? Due to the recent string of lawsuits,
UCSD computing services is cracking down on file sharing in the dorms
to avoid any legal action. Last year, record companies filed over
200 complaints to the University about students who illegally downloaded
music files.
Repeat offenders will now face the possibility of restricted
Internet access. The threat of college life with no high-speed
Internet connection—now that’s not music to the ears of any would-be
file sharer. |
