Net Gain
Although last season was the first time in
18 years that the women’s soccer team did not make the division
playoffs, the team nonetheless finished with an impressive 14-4-1
record. The season did, however, mark the 300th career victory for
Coach Brian McManus, when sophomore Megan Dickey scored a game-winning
goal in double overtime against SFSU on October 3.
Heartbreaker
The women’s volleyball team captured its first-ever California
Collegiate Athletic Association title, sweeping Cal State Monterey
Bay 3-0 and Sonoma State 3-0 in the last games of the season. UCSD
hosted the Pacific division playoffs, November 18–20, but
lost in a 3-2 heartbreaker to Cal State
San Bernardino and finished second.
Wave Woes
The men’s water polo team struggled
in the latter half of the season, ending with an 18-11 season
record. At the
final regular-season match against Pepperdine, graduating senior,
captain Nate Cooper scored two goals in the match, but it was
not enough to stop
the Waves from beating UCSD 7-5.
