What’s
in a name? To many UCSD alumni, Third by any other name does not
smell as sweet.
In a survey in the CampusLoop e-newsletter, 64 percent of alumni
who attended a college while it was still unnamed identified with
the
number, and only 36 percent identified with the new name. Third College
was founded in 1970, but it wasn’t renamed Thurgood Marshall
College until July 1993, after 23 years of
Third-College graduates.
We’ve also heard from many Eleanor Roosevelt College graduates
who still think of themselves as Fifth College graduates.
After listening to your opinions,
@UCSD will now designate alumni from those years as Third and Fifth
in Class Notes. Numbered out yet?
