Kudos

Kudos to the following professors and researchers.

Three UCSD professors, William Bechtel, Paul A. Insel and Vivek Malhotra, were named 2005 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the nation’s largest scientific organization. They will be officially inducted on February 18, during the 2006 AAAS Annual Meeting in St. Louis.

Bechtel, a professor of philosophy, was cited “for fundamental contributions to the philosophy of life and cognitive sciences.” Insel, a professor of pharmacology, was cited “for fundamental contributions to the understanding of adrenergic signaling.” And Malhotra, a professor of biology, was cited by the Biological Sciences section for “pioneering molecular analysis of Golgi complex assembly and disassembly during the cell cycle and the role of protein kinase D in secretion.”

Trey Ideker, an assistant professor of bioengineering at UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering, has been named one of the nation’s top 35 innovators under age 35 by MIT’s Technology Review magazine.

Patrick Patterson, a lecturer in the Department of History at the UCSD, was awarded a 2004-2005 fellowship by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). Patterson’s $25,000 fellowship grant is for postdoctoral research on the “Culture of the Market and Everyday Life in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.”
