And
walking! One thousand five hundred and twenty seven pairs of shoes
took part in the tenth anniversary of the Chancellor’s Challenge
5K Run/Walk for Scholars on October 21. We thought it was worth
celebrating everyone who broke sweat for the good cause of scholarships.
Michael Robertson, ’90, offered $25 to every one who beat
his time — 280 did, for which he donated $7,000 — plus
$15,000 more in sponsorship. Three other alums, Peter Preuss, ’67,
Gary Jacobs, ’79 and Alan Swinney, ’89, donated $5,000
each. Chancellor Fox’s $5,000 sponsorship challenged 1,500
to attend and she happily lost that when the final tally tipped
1,527, a 25 percent increase over last year. Over the 10 years,
the event has netted almost $1.5 million for scholarships. And
this year alone netted
almost $229,000. Now that’s worth sweating for.
