Tired of same-old, same-old,
on your iPod? Want to venture beyond Barenaked Ladies and Franz
Ferdinand? Then why not download a
podcast of UCSD professor Rick Grush’s Philosophy 10 “Introduction
to Logic?” Grush first started using podcasts last fall,
and soon found himself among the top 32 “new and notable” list
from Apple iTunes.
UC Berkeley and Stanford have tried
podcasting and more and more professors are recording their
lectures for students to download and listen to at
their own leisure. Some academics, however, wonder whether it will
leave classrooms empty. But Grush says he’s not too worried
and believes that podcasting is just another tool for learning.
“Whether or not there are 300 people or 20 people in lecture, it
doesn’t bother me,” he says. “Students are adults,
they can judge for themselves whether they need to come to lecture
or not.”
It certainly adds a whole new dimension
to Timothy Leary’s “turn
on, tune in . . . ” and listen
to Philosophy or Chem 6a!
