Shall
we dance? Or we could just sit back and enjoy Allyson Green Dance
Company’s latest program “Full
Circle.” In
their most recent foray into the treacherous currents of the
New York dance world, theater and dance professor Allyson Green
and her troupe garnered accolades from critics. The New York
Times wrote: “Ms. Green reveals her gift for creating dances
on a bigger scale. She begins with two women in draped black
dresses by Paloma Young [M.F.A. ’06], and gradually builds
to 13 dancers, moving with lovely surges of whirling, low jumps
and inward-curving, curling arms.” The Village Voice described
Green as an arresting performer who projects “serenity,
gentleness and thoughtfulness,” and called dancer Monica
Bill Barnes, ’95, “a marvel of rapid, fluently tumbling
changes—entering Green’s dreamy space like a small
whirlwind.” Their performances, set against a desert landscape
conjured from a video of Peter Terezakis’s light installation,
were presented by Danspace Project in the Village in June. And
in August, Green took her troupe’s
vibrant desert dances to the cooler climes of St. Petersberg, Russia,
and Riga, Latvia, on an ArtsLink Project Fellowship.
