Scripps
Institution of Oceanography: Seeking Funds for Seaside Forum

Thanks
to the generosity of donors, site preparation has already begun
on the Rosbert Paine Scripps Forum for Science, Society and
the Environment at UCSD’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Designed to be a modern conference facility, the Forum will allow
Scripps to host researchers and decision makers from all over the
world, as well as provide a much-needed facility for research symposia,
academic classes, public lectures and other educational offerings.
To demonstrate UC San Diego’s commitment to building the
Forum, Chancellor Marye Anne Fox issued a $750,000 matching gift
challenge last fall for the $13.2 million project. Since the beginning
of the multi-year fundraising project, donors have given almost
$10 million for construction of this state-of-the-art facility.
UCSD friends have the opportunity to help support completion of
what is sure to become a valuable community resource. With a gift
of $2,500 or more, your name will be added to the Scripps Forum’s
donor recognition wall.

CAMPAIGN NEWS

Preparing Teachers
for Tomorrow
The Division of Physical Sciences is embarking on an initiative
designed to increase the number of K-12 science and mathematics
teachers in California through the UC-wide California Teach program.
Because each one of these teachers will interact with more than
1,000 students in his or her career, the science and math teachers
graduating each year from the UC campuses will have an impact on
the minds, aspirations and careers of one million or more California
children. If you would like to help, please call (858) 822-3258.
