Physicists Urge Congress to Tighten Nuclear

2007 Twenty-two of the nation’s most eminent physicists sent
a letter to Congress this month urging it to restrict President
George W. Bush’s authority
to order the use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states
without prior congressional approval. The letter was spearheaded
by Jorge Hirsch, a UCSD
professor of physics, and co-authored
