In
July, UCSD theater professor Jorge Huerta was honored with a lifetime
achievement award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
Huerta, who is the first Chicano theater professor to receive this
award, began teaching
at UCSD in 1975.
Harold M. Stark, a professor of mathematics, has been elected
to the National Academy of Sciences. Stark joins 63 current members
of the UCSD faculty who are members of the academy.
The Association of American Physicians (AAP) has elected two physician-
scientists from the School of Medicine as new members: Patricia
Finn, the chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Anthony
Wynshaw-Boris, the director of the Center for Human Genetics
and Genomics.
And the American Philosophical Society, founded in 1743 by Benjamin
Franklin, has elected three UCSD professors to its ranks: Mario
J. Molina, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry;
Paul J. Crutzen, a professor at the Center for Atmospheric Sciences,
Scripps Institution of Oceanography; and Ronald M. Evans, a professor
at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, who is also an adjunct
professor in UCSD’s Department of Neurosciences.
