Intrigued by the thought of learning Spanish with Desi the Dinosaur
and Chico the Chicken? Paula Jorge Guglielmino, ERC ’96, has
created a hip and exciting way for parents to learn the language
with their children.
Guglielmino and her sister-in-law, Nathalie Jorge, were dissatisfied
with the existing bilingual education market and decided to create
Professor Pocket, a children’s entertainment company that
recently released its first audio CD. Titled Our Silly Farm Adventure,
the CD introduces Spanish to children ages 2 and up, through storytelling
and songs.
“We have been able to equally combine and translate English
and Spanish in a seamless way, while still making it fun and entertaining,” Guglielmino
says.
And the new technique has been well received. Parents have written
in to say that their children are singing songs in Spanish for
the first time. Their CD has also won a Dr. Toy’s Best Products
for Summer 2007 seal and has been featured in Multilingual Living
Magazine.
Guglielmino and Jorge wrote the script and lyrics, hired professional
actors and musicians and do all of their own product development,
sales and marketing. Their customers come from all over the world
and their sales have surpassed their expectations and are gaining
momentum. They are already in the process of making their second
CD and future plans include expanding their product line to books
and other languages.
