From Preuss to President

Marco Murillo, Marshall ’08, the new associated student president, is no stranger to academic outreach. The San Ysidro native and first-generation college student commuted 90 minutes daily to UCSD’s Preuss School where he regularly interacted with college students. Once he got to UCSD, he joined Thurgood Marshall College Council, and took lobbying trips to Sacramento and Washington, D.C., to convince lawmakers to restore funding to academic preparedness programs.

In April, he ran for A.S. president with the support of many student organizations, and pledged to create a sense of community on campus and improve student life. He also plans to open a student-run recruitment and retention center, ease communication between student organizations and the A.S. Council and strengthen UCSD’s relations with the La Jolla area.
