With headlines of environmental destruction flooding the media, it’s hard to see past the smog toward cleaner days. But Jessica Jensen, M.P.I.A. ’98, has a clear
vision—she believes in solving macro problems one micro step at a time.
Jensen and her husband Jason Pelletier co-founded Low Impact Living, a company that assists people in reducing the environmental footprint they make in their homes and daily lives.
Low Impact Living offers a hand to those who wish to decrease their impact but don’t know where to start. “We give people real everyday actions that they truly can take into their homes and lives to protect the environment,” says Jensen. “We leave policy to other people and ask ‘what three things can be done this month?’”
Lowimpactliving.com calculates website visitors’ personal environmental impacts and suggests tailor-made projects to achieve sustainable goals. The site makes recommendations from biodiesel fuel to planting trees for cooling, using the nation’s largest database of green products and service providers to help get the job done.
By placing tools at people’s fingertips, Jensen is providing a first step toward transforming dreams of low-impact living into reality.
