Debra G. Neuman was appointed as the new VC for External Relations at UC San Diego in June. She comes to UCSD from CARE USA, where she was senior vice president of External Relations.
At CARE USA, Neuman assembled a team of 115 professionals in eight locations, raising the charity’s visibility in the United States. She also led the organization’s fundraising response to the tsunami that devastated Southern Asia in December 2004.
Prior to her successes at CARE, Neuman enjoyed an extensive career at IBM Corporation where she held a variety of positions, including Vice President of Communications for Global Services and IBM Americas.
“I am pleased that Deb will join my strong leadership team,” says Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. Deb has a proven track record in winning the hearts and minds of supporters. She is a perfect match for the needs of UC San Diego now and in the years ahead.”
As Vice Chancellor – External Relations, Neuman will manage fundraising, University communications and public affairs, as well as relations with donors, alumni, local and state governments.
“UC San Diego has a great story to tell,” says Neuman. “Our faculty, students, staff and alumni are changing lives every day with groundbreaking breakthroughs and initiatives.”
