Miss out on the fall Homecoming event? If so, the Young Alumni Reunion offers another chance at Triton camaraderie. And one of the highlights of the weekend will be the screening of the popular independent film Bottle Shock, starring Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman, on Saturday, February 21.
The film’s producers, UC San Diego alumni Robert Baizer, ’86, and Diane Diane Jacobs, ’86, who are Chancellor’s Associates members, will serve as guest speakers. Bottle Shock debuted at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and received critical acclaim before opening in theaters last August. Based on a true story, the film chronicles the events leading up to the famous 1976 tasting when a small American winery bested the celebrated French wines of the time, putting California wines on the map. Other UCSD connections with the film include screenwriter Ross Schwartz, parent of Alica Schwartz ’02, and actor Hal Klein ’97, who has a supporting role in the film and will also be speaking at the event.
