Loft(y) Goals
For UCSD students, Price Center’s new culture and arts lounge seems almost too good to be true. In its opening months, The Loft has hosted events ranging from wine- and food-tasting activities to film screenings to a musical lineup that included folk, funk, tango and trip-hop.

SPORTS SHORTS
Hoop: La Last winter, new basketball head coach Charity Elliott guided the Triton women through a 25-win season that culminated in a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. This year’s “go-to” player will be six-foot-one Michelle Osier, Revelle ’09 (right), who averaged 15.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game as a junior. Her 1,257 career points rank her fourth in UCSD’s all-time record.
Pool Perfect: A perennial national power, the women’s swimming and diving team finished fourth at last year’s NCAA Division II Championships in Columbia, Mo. Kendall Bohn, Muir ’09 (left), swam a gritty race to capture the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:17.71, and she will be back this year to lead a team with solid hopes for a top-three NCAA finish.
Spike Time: Men’s volleyball coach Kevin Ring’s squad has had the odds against it for years as it competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), lined with the top Division I programs in the country. However, his young roster— including veteran outside hitters Jason Spangler, Marshall ’10, and Frank Fritsch, Sixth ’10 (left), had the MPSF doing double takes last year when they knocked off defending NCAA D-I titleholder UC Irvine twice, as well as Pacific, UCSB and UCLA. With nearly all the key components returning and another solid recruiting class in tow, Ring and co. are poised to continue their progress.
