Who is the son of Poseidon, boasts a fishtail and blows a conch? No prizes for answering. But for all you who missed an actual Triton during your years at UCSD—come back and have a gander. The buff 750-pound bronze statue created by Manuelita Brown, M.S. ’76, was unveiled in October at the bottom of the new Price Center East steps in front of a crowd of 500. It was made possible by funding from University Centers and from the senior classes of 1998 and 1999. Ping Yeh, ’99, M.S. ’01, who championed the project while he was a student, flew back from Minneapolis for the unveiling and said that the classes hoped the sculpture would lead to a “Tritonization” of the campus. “The Triton sculpture reminds me of the importance of donating to UCSD to improve student life,” Yeh said. “It’s about giving forward.”
