Goal Driven

A big hoorah to the UC San Diego Women’s Soccer team who ended their year in Evans, Ga., with their second NCAA Final Four appearance in three years. Like their 2010 journey, this one ended with a second place finish. After exacting revenge with a 2-1 triumph over Grand Valley State, the team that defeated them in the 2010 national title clash, McManus and Co. suffered a 1-0 loss to second-ranked West Florida in the championship showdown. The squad featured 10 seniors and eight players named to the all-conference team, including the CCAA Defensive Player of the Year Ellen Wilson, Sixth ’13.

The UC San Diego Men’s Basketball team went 10-17 a year ago. CCAA coaches picked this season’s club to finish 11th in the 12-team conference. The sixth-year head man is very enthusiastic about what the near future holds. That could be due in part to his four starters—guards James McCann, Marshall ’14, and Tyler McGrath, Warren ’13, along with forwards Justin Brue, Muir ’13, and Ryan Peters, Revelle ’14—back in the fold, and four seniors and three juniors on the roster.
