Alumni Celebration Award Nominations 2015

The 2015 UC San Diego Alumni Celebration will mark the 37th year UCSD has recognized the accomplishments of outstanding alumni and University friends.

We invite you to take a moment to consider the exceptional leadership, notable accomplishments, and service of UCSD alumni and nominate them for one of the following awards:

Outstanding Alumnus/a
Awarded to an alumna or alumnus of an undergraduate or graduate program of UC San Diego, who has rendered special or outstanding service, or, through personal achievement, has brought honor and distinction to the University.

Distinguished Leadership
Awarded to an alumna or alumnus of and undergraduate or graduate program of UC San Diego, who has exhibited significant leadership in a profession that has significantly enriched University.

Emerging Leader
Presented to an alumna or alumnus who has made a significant impact on their profession and/or community-at-large since graduation. The nominee must be 35 years of age or younger at the time the award is presented.

The Awards Selection Committee, made up of elected members of the governing board of UCSD Alumni, reviews each candidate nomination and selects those persons whose achievements most closely fit the category for which they have been nominated.

Outstanding Alumnus
Nick Woodman, Muir ’97, Visual Arts
Founder and CEO of GoPro, one of the world’s fastest growing camera companies, now worth an estimated $2.25 billion.




Distinguished Leadership
Larry Goldstein, Revelle ’76, Biology
Distinguished professor of cellular and molecular medicine and director of the new Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center at UC San Diego.




Emerging Leader
Paloma Young, M.F.A ’06, Theatre
Costume designer recognized for her work in "Peter and the Starcatcher" at the 66th annual Tony Awards (2012) for Best Costume Design of a Play.




Honorary Alumna
Julia Brown
A parent of a UC San Diego graduate, Julia is a passionate advocate for UC San Diego. She believes in the importance of the University’s research and innovation, its economic impact and its importance as an engine of social mobility.

The Alumni Celebration will be held during the seventh annual Alumni Weekend. Net proceeds from the evening event will benefit UC San Diego student scholarships.
