National Merit Scholarship
Since 1994, the Alumni Association has proudly co-sponsored UCSD's National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizing our nation's best and brightest high school students. The program identifies and honors exceptional scholars and encourages them to pursue rigorous college studies at UCSD.
Of the 1.8 million high school students that participate in standardized testing during their junior year, National Merit Scholars represent the top one-half percent of the nation's high school graduating classes. Recipients of the scholarship are selected on the basis of demonstrated abilities, skills and accomplishments.
The National Merit Scholarship Program ensures continued recruitment of top scholars by rewarding academically talented students with scholarship monies and renews national interest in the UCSD as a natural destination. The alumni merit scholarship endowment now stands at $2 million and will ensure continued support for many years to come.
